Drama Review: A Gentleman’s Dignity 신사의 품격 – Episodes 12, 13, 14
**Warning: Spoiler Alert**
Haven’t seen it yet? Head on over to DramaFever and catch up on episodes 1-14! Oh, and sorry for the super long post… I’ll just do two episodes from now on!
Episode 12
Do Jin is so cute now that he’s happy. He’s no longer cold and distant but all sweet and warm. I think I’ve finally chosen between Do Jin and Yoon. Wow, this was probably the most difficult choice in any fictionalized story (K-drama or not) for me as both characters are simply yummy in every way. But now that Do Jin has opened up, I think I like him just a tiny bit better.
Now you all know that I love Yi Soo, I think she’s adorable but how the hell did she stay that innocent into her 30s? I get being uncomfortable with Do Jin in her bed – it’s really early in their relationship for that – but sometimes she’s just a little too clueless. There is simply no way I could be lying beside Do Jin on the bed – with our faces only inches apart – and not want to kiss him. Sorry dude but how could you not want to?!? Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think so…
Mi Ah Ri rocked in this episode. Like Yi Soo, I think she’s adorable, but her crying scenes were getting a little too frequent so I love how she was stronger in episode 12. Love, love, love the little speech she gave to Yoon (who was so cutely jealous over Colin) while he was driving her to work. You go girl! Plus Yoon’s expression was priceless.
Speaking of Colin, I’m not sure what to think of him. He’s a little odd and arrogant, and he seems to have only one expression.
The whole episode was cute but the final scene rocked! That was one of the best proposals EVER! “Let’s live together. In the next life, I won’t care who you live with. Instead, in this life, you have to live with me. I’ll make you happy. I promise.” Do Jin… awww… my heart’s all a flutter. Don’t laugh but I replayed this scene twice because it was so romantic. I was sighing and crying.
But the episode finished on a funny note with the bloppers… so funny! I really hope they do them again.
Episode 13
Umm… love how Yoon fell for Mi Ah Ri’s drunken act. No one gets drunk within seconds of swilling a bottle of soju. Of course, many people would get drunk from a bottle of soju but not two seconds after they chugged the bottle… it would take a couple of minutes at least to penetrate the blood stream. Just saying… but it was a convincing performance.
Poor Yoon! He’s trying so hard to do what he thinks is the right thing and resist his love and attraction to Mi Ah Ri.
But man, Tae San is an ass – I absolutely abhor controlling guys. Let Mi Ah Ri live her own life. Yes, 17 years is a big difference but they are both adults. Every episode I watch just makes me dislike him more. But I was chatting with some friends about A Gentleman’s Dignity and one of my friend’s likes him. To each their own, I guess.
Okay, what’s up with Yi Soo’s mom and those two guys that looked like loan sharks? Are they her step brothers? Not sure how this plot twist will work out but something is definitely up. But Do Jin was so supportive afterwards.
So Colin doesn’t actually know who his father is, he just suspects… interesting. I actually liked the scene while he was looking at the pictures of the four oppas and talking about who he wants it to be. He wants it to be Do Jin (nooo… that pretty much guarantees that it will be… damn it!) and reveals that he likes Mi Ah Ri (saw that a mile away).
I know I sound like a broken record but Do Jin is soo cute now that he’s happy with Yi Soo. His jealousy in the scene with Jung Yong Hwa – the leader of CN Blue playing himself – was so adorable. I was laughing so hard I had to play it again because I missed some of the subs. And then the delightful cuteness continues outside the restaurant… I’m in romantic heaven!
Dragon Lady… aka Min Seok is actually nice in her own way. Not only did she lend Se Ra the money she needs but she did it in a way that would allow her to save a little face by saying she would still criticise her and take the car as collateral. I’m growing to like her character and would love for everything to work out with her and Jung Rok.
Loved and dreaded the ending of the episode. Colin – Lee Jong Hyun from CN Blue – has a lovely voice (I’m a fan of CN Blue so was hoping he’d sing at some point). But I’m so afraid his father is Do Jin and that’s just going to make me cry (and not in a good way).
Episode 14
Seriously, why does Colin always seem to have a slightly smug look on his face. Dude is adorable looking but he needs more expressions.
No!! Not Do Jin! No!! Colin is pretty sure that Do Jin is his father and from the look on Do Jin’s face, he thinks it’s a strong possibility. Aww… Do Jin looks so sad *cry*. All the emotions and thoughts that must be going through his mind to find out he has a fully grown son. I just want to give him a hug. T.T
This was the worst episode ever! T.T So much crying and anger… arg… why does it have to be Do Jin, why?!? He just looks so sad.
Min Seok calls a meeting of the four girls – herself, Yi Soo, Mi Ah Ri and Se Ra – to discuss the situation. They don’t know who’s the father at this point, only that one of the guys is but Min Seok wants to be prepared. She looks sad but level-headed about the situation.
Back in Yi Soo and Se Ra’s house, the two of them plus Mi Ah Ri are discussing the situation. Two things struck me strongly in their discussion. First, while Mi Ah Ri does need to mature a little, it’s obvious that she loves Yoon with all her heart. She was all “how can I help?” not “this ends it”. Gotta love her for it! The other thing was how quiet Yi Soo was. Does she suspect it’s Do Jin? And will her strange non-relationship with her mother cloud her judgement of the situation?
Arg… Yi Soo, if you like a guy enough to cry over him… then you should like him enough to fight for him. Knock on the bloody door! Don’t be a wimp. Fight for him. Comfort him! Damnit, he’s your man!
I’m sorry but the scene with Colin and his mom, Eun Hee was warped. It’s completely natural to seek out a birth parent and isn’t a betrayal or acting immature. That scene just cemented my dislike for Eun Hee. Sorry chick but you acted immaturely and rashly when you disappeared without letting Do Jin know he was going to be a father. This situation is YOUR fault, not Colin’s.
Certain threads in this drama are slow at developing and Min Seok and Jung Rok’s relationship is one of those. They very obviously love each other – and it’s also obvious that Jung Rok isn’t actually cheating… just flirting because she doesn’t return his attention which makes him flirt more, which makes her withdraw more… such a vicious cycle. I hope that this scare can help them break free. I like them both. He’s so sweet in a careless way and she’s actually nice under that cold bitch exterior.
I still don’t really like Se Ra but as her character grows… I feel more pity for her. And this episode was no different.
Do Jin: “I’m going to cancel my words about living together. I also take back the promise that I’ll make you happy. I won’t be able to fulfill your request that I never leave you before you leave me either. I’m a horrible bastard. Please try to forget about me… It’s not that I don’t have the confidence to love one woman forever. It’s that I don’t have the right. I’m being punished for making others cry and being so conceited during my lifetime.” NO!!! This is no time to be noble. NOOOO!!!
Yi Soo, man up and fight for him. He’s worth it. This isn’t his fault, tell him you’ll stand with him and help him through it. Fight for him. Bah, Mi Ah Ri is the better woman, she was ready to stand by her man. I’m seriously angry at Yi Soo. Yeah, Do Jin didn’t really give her time to process but it’s not like it was a total bomb, she knew it was a possibility.
And what the f… really Tae San, you won’t be friends with Se Ra or date her how she wants but you think it’s a good idea to pay off her loans. The loan she didn’t come to you about. That she was hiding from you. Damn controlling ass.
Come on, the crazy-ass mother comes into the school to smack around Dong Hyub. Wow, talk about making your son’s life miserable ‘cause that’s gonna make him popular. And then she sues the school. Bah! I like Dong Hyub and was hoping for more of a story around him but not this.
This episode makes me SOOO angry! AHHHH!!!! I can’t even write coherently because I just want to scream at the TV and the writers. I was really enjoying the lighthearted romance of this drama and now it’s all angst and anger. Seriously, why? I’m so angry I’m crying!
What did you think of episodes 12-14? Are you angry? How would you have reacted? Which oppa do you like best?
